CARACALS
(CARACAL CARACAL)
The Caracal, also known as the "Desert Lynx" inhabits many
regions, but is found mainly in North Africa and South West
Asia. the Caracal is widely distributed throughout this region
and is absent only in the true desert. It is common in the
humid forest zone of the Northern coastal regions, and is also
found in the Saharan mountain region. Their diets consist
mainly of small mammals and birds, but they have been know
to attack larger prey. They are mainly nocturnal and prefer to
hunt at night and sleep in the dense vegetation cover of rock
crevices.

The Caracal's coloring can vary depending on the area it
comes from. They can be a tan or ruddy color to a gray type
coat found on those that inhabit various parts of Israel. They
have extremely long ear tufts and stiff hair between their toes
similar to that of desert dwelling cats.
